I am in the process of taking the valves out of my vn v8 cylinder heads. The springs are lt1 and will not be strong enough. One of the retainers is broken. The heads have not been used and the retainers were new. i put the springs in using a press so there shouldn't have been a problem there. Has anyone had this happen and is it common?

That one retainer may have had a manufacturing defect, they're usually pretty reliable.
Might pay to get a complete new set.

I got it wrong, it was the lock that was broken not the retainer. My new springs will have retainers and locks with them so it didn't
matter to much. Thanks anyway.
