i heard somewhere, that new legislation has been passed to ban antenna being put on bull bars? can anybody bust this myth (ha)

the only problem i could see would be with visibility.. but geezz.. a 1" think antenna causing bad visibility?

its also the 'danger' part too.... cus if ya hit a pedestrian with ya 4X4 with that great big bullbar.... they might get hurt by the phone antenna.....

my maths isnt 100% accurate but a 1 inch antenna would equate to something like a 12 inch block in vision 100 meters up the road. now i know people should be concentrating harder than this but that could be the size of a person waiting to cross the road. at 100clicks that distance closes in no time. ban them.

there are some very strong yet small ones now. i dont get the cowboy mentality. ive known a few and half didnt even hook the bloody thing up. it was only there to look cool or whatever.

.

that's the reason. if you can mount it behind the bullbar out of the way of pedestrians i believe it may be OK in most states.

No that is really the reason. It's not true to say you're finished if you get hit by a bullbar. Many collisions are at slow speeds, maybe 10 km/h. An antenna mount can tear your guts open. That is the reason they're banned.

The aerial is normally mounted BEHIND the bullbar. Not out on front.
Or if mounted in front of the "bars" it is still only ontop of the main solid part.
When you get hit by a bull bar, they're designed to push the person down and under. Therefore, you shouldn't touch the mounts for the antenna.

VR Berlina wagon.
There's a Commodore ute here in town that has 3 thick antennas mounted on top of the bullbar, so he actually has 3 blind spots in front of the vehicle. The one on the drivers side is exactly in his line of sight too. I'd find that so distracting.

BTW, if you get hit with any vehicle at highish speeds you are stuffed, bullbar or not.
