Bushfire Buggered Tools. How to save ?

Well I lost everything in the fires. Whole house and contents.
Saved the Commo by driving it to escape the impending volcanic firestorm.

Have been back since and found bugger all to salvage.
I did find spanners and sockets.

Has anyone seen the crust these things get on them !?
Wondering what's good to soak them in to clean them up. Mostly the spanners.

I'm beyond doing any heavy work that needs me to lean heavy on sockets etc but wondering if I should just dump them in case they've been weakened by the heat somehow.

Sorry to hear of your loss.
Guess elbow grease will be your friend to clean them up. Scrubbing with steel wool etc.
Keep them, don’t toss them, time will tell the condition. Toss them later if they don’t work.

It's a bit hard to say without seeing them but perhaps try a wire brush on one and see how it goes.

The true test will be using them, but unfortunately they're likely garbage now. The heat-treated surfaces may have annealed (softened) in the extreme heat.
Be cautious when using them for the first time. Expect them to bend/break (don't lean on them and injure yourself when they let go).

Crap chronic disease that stopped me doing any serious spanner work means I cant scrub the buggers either, thus wondering about a soaker.

This is what I suspected. It was a bloody hot wind powered inferno not just a dip in a campfire.

Since I can't lean hard on anything anymore anyway I was thinking I might toss them to be safe. Especially the sockets . A lot of them were cheap rubbish anyway.

Spanners were mostly decent and useful for lighter household duties too so wouldn't mind trying to find an easy clean.
