My heater core is leaking. What is the best way to bypass the heater? I can see two hoses going to the firewall which I presume are going to/from the heater. I've tried removing these but manthey are on tight. I may have to cut them. Anyone gone through this before?

undo the 2 hoses connected to the heater and plug them off with cork's, then tighten the clamp as much as you can. got away with this for 2 months with my vn v6 and didnt leak a drop.

Just a quick fix until you got it sorted.

Cut them and put a thick bolt or something solid inside the hose and clamp with a Jubilee clip. A cork may hold for a short time but heat and pressure at 20 psi will eventually crumble the cork and seeing as things get forgotten it may be years before you remember to replace the cork.

Happened to me on my old VL, I made a by pass hose. (you can buy them just google them) because the water runs in a cycle/circle you need to find2the enterence/exit (the 2 hoses) on the motor side then run a line that goes from the exit straight to the enterence. thus completeing the circle and and bypassing the box. oh and having coolant splashing out of the box every time you turned a corner sux, thats what happened to mine.

Though beware that if the RTA police etc.. see the bypass your f##ked, because a basic safety requirment is to have a demister aided by a heater.

Thanks for the info. I've removed the hose and clamped them. The police ain't as strict here in NZ and it's never cold enough to use the heater.

Even easier way i learnt on the side of the M2 when my heater tap blew up, if the VR is the same as the VS there will be 2 heater hoses coming off the engine. One has a fat end on the engine and a smaller end on the heater tap. Remove the small hose from the engine and remove the small end of the fat hose from the heater tap. Bend the fat hose in a U shape and clamp the small end to the free engine pipe. That way the water just flows through the hose and back into the engine. No leaks.
