how effective are these filters, as i was looking at putting one in and how much do they cost?

having bought one of these today the instructions aren't quite clear from poor diagrams, does the cover only have to be lifted up past the bonnet strut so you only have have access from the front (side on), and does the mesh inside it come out all together for the filter to go behind it or when the filter goes in does the mesh come out entirely.

Yeah you only have limited access (lift the cover past the struts)... That is why it's very hard. You need to use a long nose plier and rip the mesh out. you can see like a plastic strip on the lrft hand side. You need to push the mesh towards the center so it clears it and rip it out.

does the mesh get replaced by the filter and becomes obsolete or does the white filter go behind it?

I believe that the mesh screen becomes redundant when you insert the filter as the filter takes up the space prior used by the screen - anyway the filter is in my car and the mesh screen is in the shed

OMG!!! I spent 1 hour trying to fit both of them in because that is what the instruction said. Well i got the mesh 80-90% secure anyway.

I did myn yesterday and got rid of the mesh, took me 5 minutes and the filter cost me $34.95 from Repco.

Thanks for the help!
