We have decided to stroke the burnout car and run nitrous. Stroker kits aside, this is not a debate on what is best, I would be interested to know what peoples advice would be on a good cam.

The engine is a blue 308 with EFI. It will be taken to 355, it has a Haltec and the tune will be to suit. It will be running a wet nitrous system that won't be used every time. It also has a 3500 high stall, through a built trimatic and 3.08 diff. The cam needs to be in the top end as the engine will be consistently at 5200-5800 rpm. The missus wants a lumpy as #### idle. Although, a cam that works that high will probably struggle to idle anyway so one begets the other.

Oh, and it runs 98.

Thoughts?

So far from what I have read, that seems to be the consensus. Up the compression, solid flat tappet.

Being that it will run Nitrous very often, you should fit a "supercharger" spec cam which will have longer duration on the exhaust valve to help get out exponentially more air than what the engine sucked in.

Do you have any more engine info on the build??
target Comp ratio
valve size's
intake manifold
any flow numbers on head or intake?

I'm not saying that I can recommend a perfect cam if you have that info, but It will help a specialist make an informed decision.
I will try and recommend something though.

B cast heads/vn heads? Manifold?
Crane 288 will make ya missus moist!!!
10.5 comp will be nice on 98.
Converter is a bit small but you will find it will behave a bit like a 4000rpm converter with the new displacement.
3.9's in the rear to smoke those tyres hard.
With the added investment in the bottom end i would def look into some oiling mods if not done so already.

VN style heads.
Was thinking somewhere around the 10:1 compression.
It smokes tyres quite adequately now with 3.08's, I don't want to lose tyre speed by fitting higher gears. Less tyre speed means less smoke. It just doesn't quite hold top gear, but with stroking and a cam, and the nitrous, it should hold top at 5500 nicely.

I'm not sure what else has been done to the engine as it was bought from over east a few years ago. I did try ringing the number on the sticker in the engine bay but they weren't any help. They don't keep detailed records of every build.

All I do know is when it first came over it was dynoed at 300 rwhp, then another mob played with the tune and dropped it to around 250. I really need someone over here that knows the Haltec's to tune it, or or someone to play with the tune and I can put it back on. I have the Haltec software. I prefer to have it tuned on a dyno though.

If its a skid car. Smash the comp to 12.5:1. E85 288 solid will do. 4500-5500 stall and 3.7 gears. Don't worry about tire speed when its sitting in top at 7000, you will have plenty.

Wouldn't do no2 in a skid car. That's more for racing.

yeah ditch the nitros...you wont need it.

mines killing tyres into 3rd and turning it to 6500 with ease......a 4500 stall helps too, ive got a camtech version of the crane 288

####ing oath! Bin the injection, go carb and get all the bonuses of e85! Love the high revs of a skid pig! Nothing worse then somthing struggling at low rpm on the pad.

Very few places over here sell E85 though so it's 98 and nitrous lol. But the nitrous will only be used occasionally.
