shouldnt have to rotate make sure its on no 1 tdc on compression stroke
(both valves closed) not with 1 valve open.
I always mark dizzy/rotor button position with a black marker
that way once you reinstall it fires up straight away and you dont
deplete the cam moly grease by cranking it a number of times.
key to a perfect run in is min cranking and instant oil pressure.
Right on. When I did my cam, the heads where not on so I simply cranked it around until No1 poiston was all the way up. At that point I had no idea where the ignition would be which as a result ended up cranking and cranking the engine, until it was realised that the dizzy had to be turned.
At that point I imagine all the moly grease had been wiped off the cam lobes, which explains why when [about 1 year later] I now start the car in the mornings, the tappets rattle for about 3 second while the oil pressure builds up. After that it appears to be fine.
