Hi Guys,

Looking to possibly perform a CAM upgrade on my MY10 SSV L98.
Just want to know what options would be suitable, I'm looking for power gains to around 330kw from CAM, OTR and Headers.

I'm not after a racing cam or something that's hard to tune, just something that sounds nice & boosts power & doesn't attract too much negative attention.
What brand of cam is best and how much for installation & tuning by a vendor??

Is it also better to go MAF-less CAI with cam & headers? if so how much (roughly) are mafless tunes from a high-street mechanic?
Looking at Growler or ORSSOM OTR units & Pacemaker headers / extractors.

Any info or opinions would be gratefully recieved.

Cheers,
Adam.

Auto or manual.. If auto VCM 21 seems to be widely regarded as the goto cam for the stock stall..
Might need to throw porting your heads onto the list to get to 330rwkw though.

If you go VCM cam, get their intake, DoD delete etc..

I'm driving with a similar cam.. Slightly bigger I think.. Full exhaust, ported heads, OTR, mafless tune.. Basically sitting on 330rwkw neat..

If manual.. Bobs your uncle.. Jump on GM and VCM websites.. Read about the cams and pick the one you want.

Re-read your post and realised L98.. No need for DoD delete and must be a manual..

Cam install heads and tune probably from 3500-5000 depending on the mob and how many extras you get (lifters, double row timing chain, valve springs, roller rockers etc)..

Add on 600 for a decent OTR.. Mafless vs MAF you need to talk to your tuner.. Some will not tune with MAF sensor in place.

Definitely read some build threads and see people's comments on their cams

Not that I particularly like Horsepower Factory (HPF)

They are doing a head and cam package for $5000inc tune.

Thanks Lads!

Its Manny!
How much does the AFM module come into play (even though it's not active) in the L98?
Does it cost more to run in a CAM?

what kind of shopfronts do MAF-LESS tune's, is it only performance workshops, not Ultra Tune etc ?

was also thinking about roller rockers.
I have an L67 background and am worried about things like knocking and intake manifold deteriation.

Don't need roller rockers.

I think AFM delete kits when you do cam can vary from $800 to $1200 depends what the workshop includes in the kits.. Some include lifters as part of the kit.. Others include lifters as part of cam package..

Very few offer lifters in their cam packages as the heads have to be taken off.

AFM can be disabled digitally, but requires more work when a cam is involved (IE: Delete kit I'm guessing - Not 100% sure).

Can 100% recommend the VCM OTR. Great product!

I'd be personally be keeping the MAF, but I have no real justification for it :p Sometimes it's good to have some of those things in place to give you a better chance of trouble free motoring :)
