Hey guys,

I have a LS2 that has been cammed, had heads, springs and double row timing chains down.

My question, what is the best engine oil to use?

I know HSV recomment Mobil 1, but is there anything better? And what weight should I use?

Cheers.

How many K's?

The guys on the LS1 forums swear by Castrol Edge 10-60. Its ####ing expensive (anywhere from 70-90 dollars a bottle and you need 2 bottles) and I found my engine didnt quite like it, was a tad noisy.

Another high recommendation from the LS1 forums is Penrite HPR 10 (10-50 I believe)(and HPR15 which is 15-60 for summer/higher k's) both of which are easy on the wallet. Ill be trying HPR10 in about 1000km's time.

Generally you're looking for around a 10w. Holden recommends 5-30 Mobil, but remember thats for a brand new car, I wouldn't use 5 weight.

Holden recommend 10-30 for efficiency reasons. 10-60 will offer more protection although I've always used 10-40 in mine.

iv used 10-60 edge was good, been using magnatec 10-40 and that's been fine, Royal Purple seems to be popular in the states.
put 5-50 mobil 1 full synthetic in my ss and the engine is noisier hot and cold.

Always ran 5-30 mobil 1. Never had any complaints.

120,000km. About 3000km with the mods and I drive it around 200km a week.

Yeah, with the cam and gears... efficiency in not a concept my car understands.... :p

Thanks for the responses guys.

Looking like the Edge 10w60 is the winner. So far mostly all positive comments about it.

I'll have to inform my mechanic... :)
