Hey guys, I'm interested in buying a cam kit and wanting to install it myself and get it remotely tuned in my VY SS.

I am after a cam that has some strong bottom end but not to harsh on fuel economy. Something like a 220/220 etc. I have a bit of basic mechanical knowledge and I think I'm capable of doing it my self. Is it hard to do, what special tools do I need? How long will it take to install?

Or am i better off paying someone to do it considering how much most places charge I wanted to give it a shot. What kind of cam do you guys recommend? I will be getting some 3.73 gears and will strengthen my box and throw a stall in there, but I just want to the cam install to save me a few dollars.

Any tips and hints will be greatly appreciated.

install it your self its easyier then ya think i helped my mate install one the other day into a senator and it made me wish i did my own insted of paying someone else. as for special tools ya need a couple of lenghts of 8mm dowel that you insert in the front of the engine to stop the lifters from dropping ... harmonic balencer puller and installer.... large enough breaker bar to crack the harmonic balencer bolt(i had a 3foot breaker pressing against the ground and then crank the engine with the fuel pump relay out and fuel system purged) ... we disconected the aircon( by a proffesional) so that will have to get re gassed.. thats pretty much it apart from gaskets

as for your box it doesnt take much to destroy an auto especialy if your getting a really torquey cam (my mates senator only lasted 2 day)

Don't know why you want your car remotely tuned when your in Sydney with like a thousand tuners with dyno's. Cams upto 224/228 could possibly be tuned without an aftermarket stall (cheaper for the moment). Diff gears are a good option regardless of cam or not.

For install PM me your email and I will send you an LS1 rebuild guide(11mb) then you will know for sure if you could possibly do it yourself

    Things to do:
    Google LS1 Tune in Sydney
Call a Workshop or twelve/or PM a JC member in your area
Ask if they have any Cammed cars you could listen/be a passenger in
Figure out what cam will suit you and your needs
