If you are looking for a replacement LY7, you’d want to get a SV6 or Calais V6 from 2009 as these produce a smidgen more power but probably more noticeable would be the fact that max torque is lower down the revs at 2600 rpm rather than at 3200 rpm...

As is, VIN contains a lot of info and should decode the model variant. Documented here , so worth a gander.

The LY7 is the regular product option code for your engine but what the 10HV7 means i have no idea. However this high output variant has variable exhaust and intake cams and variable intake plenum so it should be visible by looking at pictures of the engine.

Surely Holden Customer Care or dealer spare parts would also know what the code means and could be able to whisper the secret to you :p

Thanks, from vin I conclude the car was
Holden, executive or omega or sv6 ,4 door sedan with Alloytech 3.6lt 190 or 195kw LY7 ,built 2009 in Adelaide.
So I.m pretty happy with that..

All VE LY7 engines interchange no matter what the code number is, unlike VZ where you had to match certain numbers

After you install the replacement engine, consider taking the problem head off the old engine and have a good look at the cylinder in question :D you may find out what the issue was and learn more from it. And you could post more photos about it... I like photos :p

So far so good................
The new 2nd hand 09 LY7 with "105km on I hope" is in my 07 SV6...........
They had to use my old sensors.. but the oil pressure sensor back of engine was a different thread and different connectors.
They have to put the old oil thingo back on with new gaskets and o rings....
cheers
Jack

VZ Crewman, VZ Cross 8, & ya mum.
They could just unpin the plug and fit a new plug to the harness.

OK job done, I picked up car today... nice to get in my VE.......... after borrowed Ford Laser.......
engine cost $1100 for a 2009 LY7 with 105 K km
fit cost $1350 a lot of fiddling with sensors , new water pump thermostat, some hoses.....
They recommended I get new radiator as mine has brownish top inlet flange. They say they crack and can cook engine.....
I said I'll get a radiator and fit it myself........
Anyone got any ideas about browning of the black plastic radiator flanges.....
Happy with the job...............and get back on the road...........
Jack
