Hi guys,

When my trans shifts down from 3rd to 2nd I can hear an audible 'clunk' sound. I can also hear it changing from park to reverse. It's been that way for months now but I haven't had the money to have it looked at by a specialist yet.

From what I've read about these transmissions I'm assuming it's stuffed (180,000km) and either needs a replacement or rebuild.

Putting a trans rated to handle 345Nm torque in an AWD with 340Nm seems silly to me.

If I have to get it replaced, is there a stronger option so I'm not setting myself up for failure again in future? If I'm presented with the option to replace or rebuild do I really want to consider a rebuild? Can it be rebuilt stronger maybe?

This is in my V6 VZ Adventra 5SP Auto.

Cheers guys :)

How long do you plan on keeping the car for? A trans rebuild will be $2500+

Might be time to consider an upgrade

I think the car is mechanically fine otherwise. Not sure what I'd do with my LX6 Adventra if it's got a stuffed transmission and I were to upgrade... I can't really sell it for any decent money with a stuffed trans but it sounds really expensive to have it fixed or replaced. Trade in value on them is 5-7K at best too. Doesn't seem to be much interest in them in the private market as I had mine listed on carsales for a few months once until I took it down.

There seems to be a genuine holden "TRANSMISSION OVERHAUL KIT" on ebay for under $200 but other rebuild kits for almost $1000. I don't know enough about this.

I wouldn't worry about the torque rating for the trans, I ran 315rwhp and over 800nm through the trans for about 20-30,000km with no effect at all

I read NM torque, FtLb's torque are very different, thats why I was wondering where 800NM was coming from

That's 872 ft lbs in 3rd gear, if that were nm in 3rd it would be over 1200nm :) then 4th would be divide it by 1.4(trans ratio for 3rd is 1.4:1) and you have 800 nm in 4th gear
