Try and cover most if not all sensors especially the connectors with either GladWrap or a plastic bag secured with an elastic band. Most connectors will give problems if wet - either immediately or in a few weeks when they corrode. Also the coil pack and DFI don't like water.
But, if you cover as much as you can you should be OK. Also if you use a degreaser try and get one that is solvent based and not alkaline based as the latter affects alloy. Most pressure pack degreasers are OK. Good Luck.

All i do is cover dfi/coil, alternator, and abs module oh and fuse box:p just cover those with plastic bags to stop the bulk of the water and u will be fine;) i do it every time and car never skips a beat! Oh and i use a light pressure gernie and degreaser!

ive washed my bay a couple times and havnt had any probs yet, plus when i did work experience at holden ages ago when they finished a service they would give the engine bay a good clean with one of those pressure gun things and would absolutely drench the engine bay

Pffffff don't worry about sensors etc. too much! If you don't directly spray them you won't do any damage, they all have seals anyhow. If they where that sensitive they would come pre-wrapped in glad wrap......LOL

They were water-tight 10 to 15 years ago when they were made but after that time the rubber and plastic has shrunk and just doesn't seal as it should. Humans are the same - I dribble after 6 beers whereas 30 years ago I could drink a dozen.

mines almost 11 years old n the rubbers and plastics are fine

if this was the case then we'd have to replace them every 10 years due to no compression from leaking seals

I'm with you Ozzie, mines 10yrs old, no problems with the seals on any of my sensors. I often wash without covering anything and don't have any trouble!!

as a detailer i have never had a problem washing engine bays.

If you are that worried just blow all the connectors with air before you try and start it.

My uncle did it to his VL at a carwash and it wouldn't start afterwards, by the time I got a phone call he was ready to push the thing out into traffic. Its not the big of a deal though, its only water and if it causes problems u just start pulling electrical plugs n stuff off and blowing em dry till the problem desists.

I did this yesterday. Soaked the motor in de greaser and then sprayed it down with the low pressure spot free rinse at the car wash. Didnt cover a thing up. BUT i plugged the air intake. Car started a treat str8 after and i gave it a good soaking.

TIP: Drive to the carwash. Spend 30 minutes or so vacuming and stuffing around to cool the engine down as you dont really want to be spraying cool water on your HOT engine parts

My car always starts no problem. I've done mine a few times at home with a high pressure washer and I don't back off from the sensors but I am cautious around the alternator because it looks a bit too open and looks like water could penetrate into some part of it where water shouldn't be.

I always go for a drive straight away after washing down the engine bay to burn up the water plus it's a good excuse to get away from the missus.

Most of the time after the water has burned up the blower belt gets a bit noisy so I spray it with CRC silicone spray. Most people with L67's will have blower belt noise especially for the first 10 minutes from startup regardless of washing the engine down or not and CRC silicone spray is the go, just spray it on the inside of the belt. You may have to use it a couple of times if it's never been done before.

If your motor and electrics are in god shape, the boots to the electrics will cover most damagable thigns up, you do want to watch out for the battery (acid) the fusebox, and the coil/dfi. other than that keep away from hot exhaust manifolds and you will be right.

Another good tip to ensure everything goes to plan is to keep the motor running whislt your detailing the bay with a gurney.

    sure!

these engines do their best work when wet!

namely on the bottom of the ocean, being used as an anchor :)
