Hey guys, With my WH Statesman, I changed the number plate globes to white LED's, now every time I turn the parkers or headlights on, the warning light comes on saying that there is a blown globe, yet they are all working. The only reason I can think of is because the LED's use less power. Is there a different type of LED lights you can get, or just the one? Cheers, Ben.
Hey mate, yeah the old globes are back in and the light doesn't come up on the dash anymore... Unless I buy another set of LEDs and see if it still happens but the ones I got work really good.
Yeah maybe, but I would prefer not to do that because it also lets you know if a brake light is not working. I didn't know that the number plate globes affected it. I still haven't got my Statesman back yet so when I have it again, I might look in to it more. Just wanted to find out if anyone else has had this problem before. Calais/Statesman/Caprice should all have that light on the dash.
The sensors that would detect a blown/not working globe would no doubt measure the resistance across the globe and if it differs too much it would flash a warning saying something is wrong. When you put in an LED globe, it would have a significantly different resistance to a normal globe and hence trigger the fault. I'm pretty sure you can get LED globes with inbuilt resistors to match. They should sort your error issues
check owners manual. there might be a reset procedure for the light in there. fit the LED globes, and the do the reset procedure.
The LED's must not draw enough amps for the BCM to register any current draw, im not expert but you may have to fit an electrical ballast/load like the ones used for LED indicators to stop the flasher going of its head.
It's not a light you can reset, its just the warning light indicating that there is a blown globe, once you replace the globe that has blown, the light doesn't come back on. That's the what I was thinking the problem might be, they don't draw enough amps (less then normal globes), so it would be like there is a blown globe. I'll find out if I can get LED lights with resistors built in or something. I have had a problem (now fixed) where that dash light was coming on every time I pressed the brake pedal, I even changed all the globes and after a couple of weeks it came on again. Turns out it was another faulty globe. I ended up fitting the LED globes in my VS Berlina as the number plate globes, but the warning light hasn't come on, I suspect that the Berlina didn't have the feature of warning the driver of a blown globe?
Just use a load resistor on the earth side of number plate light. You have to do the same thing when you put LED stop/tail/indicators on a trailer. Any autoparts shop should have them.
