Posting on behalf of a mate...

He owns a VTI Auto 1 2 3 4 all fine but when he gets up to 90 or above the car starts acting dumb....

90kms/h

goes 3rd to 4th then 4th to 3rd and then to 4th does this on and off. What could cause it?

If the car has had different diff ratio fitted and it isn't tuned for it then the BCM can shift randomly to find the best ratio

mine also does that. at certain speeds it flicks between 3rd and 4th. never realised it as a real problem, just move mine into third until i slow down or speed up. spose that doesnt help ya much :p

if this happens going up hills just gear down to 3rd until over the hill. If its doing it on flat roads as well sounds like torque converter. there could be an error code logged for this.

i havent had this problem with my vt but with my vn i did, it was the auto shift adjustment on the TB, it was set to soft and the slightest throttle touch or hills or what ever would make 3 and 4 shift all the time, i just made adjust it better and all good, not sure if vt's on wards have the adjustment, dont see why not,

hope this helps budd

from vr onwards they didnt have that anymore as the transmissions were changed to electronic, on vn/p you could change the shift patterns using the kick down cable as they had hydrolic transmissions but if you want to change shift patterns in a vr on you have to do it in a tune
