hey all, i have a 93 VR acclaim and i've noticed that every now and then, mainly when i speed up and slow down, the car 'wobbles' left and right very slightly, u can only just feel it but its there. I was told it is the wheel balancing out of wack, is this true? Also while i'm driving, i hear a faint high pitch whining sound at the front end, i can only just hear it, and i changes pitch when i speed up and slow down. Ive recently got a set of alloys, which i put on last week, i've checked them yesterday and they look fine, would there be any parts that would be slowly wearing and making the sound?

    cheers.

if it wobles when braking and has a slight whine noise i would be thinking warped braked disks! (the noise occurs when the disk very slightly touches the brake pads) does your car have abs? if not get up to cruising speed and then brake firm NOT HARD and feel if you can feel a pulsing through your brake pedal wich is a tell tale sign of a warped disk! although a poor wheel alignment can do this aswell as poor shockies and other tired suspension componets, best bet would be to go to a brake shop and get them to check the disks!

If you have been told that the wheel balancing is out of wack then get a wheel balancing, it doesn't cost that much and it could be the source of your 'wobble' problem.

firstly yes the car has ABS, and the rotors do need servicing because the steering wheel shakes when u break hard. Next the wobble is not while braking just every now and then, but i usually feel it most while accelerating and slowing down. And no i havnt had the wheels balanced yet after i put the new ones on. So i guess that answers my question lol, i'll need:

    wheel balancing

    wheel allignment

    new break pads, and

    machined rotors :D

...how much would all of this cost? :p

Get all the wheels balanced and get a wheel alignment. Unfortunately you wont know if a wheel balancing fixes the problem until you have had it done.

jack up each tyre one by one try to wobble the tyre up/down left /right and feel for play in the bearings, if your wheel bearings are worn it will also do what your saying!

Worn suspension bushes can cause exessive movements. If its live axle, check your panhard rod bar and see if its loose.

    im with AttaBoy.

Check your bushes, i'd say shocks are worn and sway bar link arm bushes are probably either very loose or excessivly crushed, the lack of a clunking noise can probably rule out front control arms and or engine mounts so that is good.

best bet as I will always advise, go to peddars $18 or so dollers for a 28 point saftey check, you cant go wrong.

get the list off of them and bring it back to us, we should be able to guide you through pretty much anything they throw at you.

Just behind the differential, a long bar that goes across it and in a bit of an angle. You can't miss it. Parallel to the axle. One end is bolted to the chassis.

Could be a worn wheel bearing hub...which is expensive on an ABS car (Around $500 fitted). You can tell if it is by jacking up the front end and grabing the wheels...try moving them side to side, if there is movement then your wheel bearing could be shot.

I doubt that it will be free, but they would defiantly do one for you and I cant imagine it will cost to much especially considering you are getting a balancing and alignment there, you never know you might be lucky and get one for free.
