This being my first V8 RWD car, im not sure if this is just part of the joy of owning one, but when im sitting in traffic idling the car seems to rock gently everynow and then.

Just wondering if its just due to the amount of force being thrown around up the front or is it some kind of irregular cylinder firing?

Nothing wrong with a bit of rocking!! It all depends on how worked the motor is and what cam you have. If you have a worked car then chances are it is a "lopey cam", meaning it has a bigger intake and exhaust cycle which give the motor a more lumpy idle causing the car to "rock". Even standard cars can do it. Especially having a V8. Because the V8 has 4 pistons on each side, technically the motor is more out of balance with the other side, but a V10 will idle more smoothly as in having very little rock as it has 5 on each side. Balances out somehow . . Nothing to worry about

Anyway, it all adds to the "I have a V8 and you dont" look ;)

AHHHH, welcome to wonderfuly weird world of the Gen III, they all have a slightly unstable idle, just one of those quirks, I think it does have something to do with the firing order.

If you want to have some more fun throw a cat back exhaust and a good set of extractors on it. While there stick a good intake (not SS inductions) on the front and get a mafless tune and LS1 edit from your local specialist.

That should make your fun a little more interesting. I drive an auto and it smokes the wheels just leaning on the gas pedal, scared the willies out of me when the shop gave me my keys back after the edit.

Next step is a new set of gears for the diff and some tighter tuning of the main drive gears. Maybe a new cam or something too, I'm not a real car guru I just listen to my mechanic friends hehe.

Oh and you'll find after the edit it will drink a lot less around town too.
