New here,
Today I was pulled over, was told my car was 'abit loud' and received a fine and a defect notice. Told to fit a resonator. They didn't test the db or anything, and my car really isn't that loud, is it not legal to have no resonator? If my car passes a db /noise test does that overrule the fact that I have a resonator delete?
Thanks in advance.

If you dont think it's loud, go and get the dB test that you need, done and then take the slip in and get the defect cleared. If it doesnt, you're going to have to do something to make it comply and then get it retested.

Technically, your car must retain the same number of mufflers/resonators as it came from the factory, and in the same location.

They're too loud without a resonator - it won't pass.

If you own a mobile phone grab one of the free db apps...note most phone mics wont measure correctly above 90db to 100db
but it will give you a cheap method of ball park noise emissions...think you will be surprised how loud it is :) most noise test will be at 2500 to 3000 rpm range....

In answer to your question, no.
The cops have already got their brownie points up with the fine, and even if you contested it in court, you would lose because the Police are trained to detect anything noisier than it should be, at least that is what the Magistrate will agree upon.
Cop it sweet and fix it, or they will hit you up again and again.

The problem might be rooted in the exhaust system. A leak in the exhaust manifold causes the engine to run louder.

Back to stock standard please. You then don't annoy the law and people.
A policeman once said and I quote......The ONLY person that thinks their loud car sounds good is YOU. Think about it.
