Hey everyone had a search around, and once again have a bit of a unique story here.. We where driving around in my car today and started to hear an odd clicking (tick, tick, tick style click), so we pulled over and the clicking held at a consistant pace..as my mate revved it a bit the clicking increased with the rev's...what was wierd when we turned the car off and tried to turn it back on it wouldnt'! :b: it sorta was doing when you have a flat battery..just struggling to turn over..anyway called a mate over with some jump leads..wacked the jump leads on turned over straight away..let it idle for a bit, clicking still there..so i wasnt TOO far away from home so figured just get it home..anyway start to drive home..all was fine besides the clicking getting faster as i accellerated, i was keeping an eye out for rough idleing, and poor accelleration..but everything seemed normal..temperature..everything was all happy chappy..but 500m down the road there was a slight hill in the road, so i acelerated a bit more and it just konked out..nothing harsh, it just turned off and rolled (the engine warning light came on)so we pulled over...i happened to have a paperclip so i shorted the pins under the steering column to try get an error code..and all i got was 6 or so consecutive "12"s and from what i remeber that means everythings fine..so we got the jump leads out again, except this time they had NO effect, as if they wernt connected and as if the battery was totally dead..just struggling to turn over

    some things i did notice...
the clicking noise seemed to be strong around the top area of the motor...a mate suggested the alternator as his dad had a similar problem in his supra...i jumped to the assumption of it being the harmonic balancer..but then remeberd that they also control timing..and like i said earlier the engine seemed to be running as if everything was fine...besides the annoying clicking.

    so what my thoughts are...
well i think (and HOPE) this is an alternator related issue, and that the 500m i managed to move was it running from the battery??

im so confused at the moment, anyone able to shed some light on this, perhaps similar experience

ohh and the cars a '97 VS series 2 esteem, with 189,000 on the clock serviced every 10,000k's..so its not as if it's been mistreated

sorry about the essay, just wanted to make sure i included everything.

how old's the battery? might wanna get new one or charge old one(check to see if its still holding charge) Check the alternator wires at the back that there not burnt or frayed. multimetre will come in handy to check the alternator.
    I hope that helps.
