Hi drove my car to servo the other day turned it off as normal now it wont start any ideas racq said it has immobilized its self. Thanks Car is ve ss 2007 and its also a v8
They only did a battery tester then said it was immobilized and saud something about missing a ring around the ignition so car immobilized
Sounds like the anti theft system is doing it's job Contact your nearest Holden dealer/repairer is what I'd be doing.
You might want to try your spare remote or chuck a new battery in the one U got Sounds like it's just a simple quick fix so with a bit of luck they might get it sorted while U wait Good Luck.
Spare key lost in house fire last year and tried a battery didnt do anything. Thanks for your help im hoping its easy to miss driven my car lol
I think the VE key has a metallic bump on it the should line up and make contact with a half moon ring around the ignition barrel itself. IIRC, this allows the key to be powered and thus signal the anti theft system as you turn the key to start. Not sure of the mechanics of the ignition barrel itself but if the half moon ring is missing, it must have fallen off and could be under your seat (if you are lucky). If you do find the ring, it may be possible to push it back on so that it makes electrical contact with the appropriate bits around the ignition barrel. As such, the key may now be able to disarm the security system and allow the vehicle to start. Obviously, if it can be “McGivered” it will be a cheap and possibly permanent fix as compared to the dealer suggestion of may be a new ignition barrel at who knows what cost. But then again may be such a “McGiver” fix is not be possible as I’d think the RACQ would have looked at it in a cost focused way
Prior to my MSE, the last Holden I owned was back in the mid 80’s so relying on vague memory of acquaintance’s cars hasn’t served me well in this instance So to sooth my curiosity, which model was it that had the ring around the ignition barrel?
Holden said something to do with gear box car thinks its in 3rd gear $1900 so far and still no car getting fixed then possibly selling it kind of over it
Same here, I had a VN VP and a VS. I'm pretty sure not VN or VP, can't remember with the VS even though I had it for 12 years! I still have VX Clubby and definitely they have the ring with the contact bump on the key. Seems none of this is relevant to the OP's problem though. So is the OPs problem with the transmission lockout?
@Holdengirl2007 as you lost the spare car key in a house fire, shouldn’t your home insurance have cover replacement cost? As for the car not starting, if the neutral safety switch is buggered and it thinks the gear lever is in anything other than N or P, the car simply won’t start. But that part is like $80 or so on eBay (and it may be external to the box on VE though not really sure). Even if it’s internal, $1900 just seems like a rip off to fix a neutral safety switch if that is what they said is faulty. If there is some other internal fault within the box itself, which would justify $1900, I didn’t think internal faults would inhibit starting the car but rather cause gear change issues.
