when an exhaust manifold has a crack, theres a ticking noise that gets loadewr and slightly faster as the engine rpm goes up. one of my m8s had that problem and as soon as he replaced the exhaust system the ticking was goonnneeee.
From what ive been told the only way to rid the ticking noise is install a set of rolla rockers and solid lifters, its the tappets that make the ticking noise.

depends where the noise is comming from, yeah if is the pushrod tappets then u can replace them, but this noise was coming fromthe exhaust manifold cause the last guy who wned the car attempted to fix it by welding it up, but the didnt last very long. and also the old v6s had noisy injectors when they get a few ks on them.

You need to change the cam if you are going to put solids in it as the standard cam is designed for the roler followers it has!
