LOL @ the draw. I agree, it's a stupid rule and needs to be changed. A great game, well done to both teams.
Why does a rule that has been in since day 1 and has only been used 2 other times need to be changed? I think it is great, the 2 best sides today could not be decided in this match. It is not a money grab ort anything else, it is how it has ALWAYS been. Great game to the saints,.
Players would go out harder into a grand final knowing they aren't going to have to back up the next week
I disagree. They're professional athletes, their bodies are trained to recover. They don't push themselves beyond injury.
Yes, it was a great game and yes, the two teams couldn't be seperated at the end but if the same thing happens next week what happens? They play extra time. It would've been better to get a result yesterday by playing an extra 5 mins each end, like they do in all the other finals leading up if the result is drawn at full time. It may be the way it's always been but imo it's a stupid rule that needs to be changed.
Gotta admit.. Saints played a way better game 2nd half.. If they kicked straight they woulda flogged you
 really? The players i know who played in last years grand final certainly didn't play less than 100%. Why would you? pretty silly comment to make. I disagree, funnily enough so does Malthouse. Rules are rules and they do not need to be changed. Yesterday saw an epic battle, I do not support either team but was following saints. In my lifetime I have not seen such a brilliant fight back and hold on. Next week we get to witness it all over again. Best thing is, it will be a tough game, i think even better than yesterdays. FOr me the rule should stay, for most of the players and coaches they also agree it should stay. Funny how no one has argued this rule should be changed in the last 30 years, so clearly many like the chance we could see 2 great teams play twice. Just one thing, you have highlighted the word final, why? There is prelim FINALS, qualifying FINALS, semi FINALS, so by your logic, every final should be the last game? Regardless of everything, this is the first time this has happened int he AFL. Only the 3rd time it has happened in the VFL/AFL. Certainly makes next week a very interesting prospect.
I'm against this rule, purely for the fact its dragging out this shitty sport another week. Bring on the real Grand final (October 10th )
Oh so now your highlighting grand final? Last post you simply said grand FINAL. with the emphasis on final. Semantics, sure, but still Regardless, the rules are the rules. Always have been and hopefully always will be.
My birthday???? :yahoo::yahoo::yahoo::rockon::rockon::rockon: As a born and bred saints man, I'm really proud of the boys. Things didn't look the best going into half time: They where 24 points down, Gardiner was knocked out and didn't look likely to come on and ruck, and Collingwood had the momentum. They don't call the 3rd quarter the "premiership quarter" for nothing. Blake/Kosi into the ruck, Gilbert forward, and no goals to Collingwood while St Kilda kicked 3 was the turning point, which set up the last quarter. Hopefully next week will be another cracking match. GO SAINTS!!!!!
Why not enjoy it for what it is....another chance to see a cracking game of footy. The next season is a long time coming.
Your right, but it will never be changed because of one thing only - the mighty $. Just like the TV network(s) being forced to cover all 8 games live - the TV networks will wave lots of $ under the AFL's nose who'll happily assume the position, even though Demetriou has stated he wants all 8 games live in the next TV rights contract.
