Hi All

Going to replace both the upper and lower control arms. Looks fairly straight forward except the joint removal. Looks like you need a special tool like in the pic.
Any tips or what tool to use would be great. Doesn't seem to be a lot of info on doing this?

Cheers Mick

Not a STEEL hammer !
Copper/Brass hammer,
or a Brass Dolly
or the Correct tool to dislodge the ball joint shaft.

If your going to replace them both on both sides,

Go for SuperPro.

The special tool is called a balljoint remover....You can buy one or just use a hammer....Hit the side where the joint goes through 2 or 3 times with the hammer and it should drop...If it doesn't, grab a bigger hammer.

Balljoint removers tend to wreck the rubber boots around it, hence me not liking using them

Why not a steel hammer...You are hitting rather thick metal and the chances of breaking it are very very slim...You'd have more chance of breaking it, by continual driving over rough roads...

get 2 hammers, hit from opposite sides at same time, usually shock release, you can put a bit of downward pressure with tyre lever or big screwdriver and tap with a hammer at same time also, the new LCA comes with a new balljoint so if you use the tool and it damages the rubber boot it wont matter, caster arm comes with new balljoint too
