Why would you want too?

Why is easy

A bit more noise
Lower temps
Increased flow
A couple of HP when tuned to suit

The hard bit is if you should

Street car = no
Race car = yes

As the OP has asked about a 6 cylinder, I would say a hard no.

anyone run a vs 3.8 without a cat ? cheers

Well if it needs a tune to suit and gains would little on a V6 anyway, unless it had a fair bit of engine work. My question remains, why? I have gutted cats before and in pedal feel, it made no difference on a straight six with similar HP to a standard Eco.

You can pick up a nice little chunk of power everywhere with just a tune, without a tune it is pointless.

You also run the risk of being hit for emissions, but, where a punched out OEM will pass a visual inspection, a decat pipe can see a very nasty fine.

In saying that, the stench of hydrocarbons coming out the rear is a dead give away that a cat has seen a hammer and long screwdriver.

As for high flow cats, when I was getting my car engineered I needed to install 2 OEM cats IOT pass, even when we tried to tune to pass the 100 cell failed as did the 200 cel.

Emmisions are hard,E85 does help to pass though.

Put it this way can get fined a few grand no having a catalytic convertor or go 100cell metal cat replacement might only get $100-$200 fine or yellow sticker & have to put stock ceramic back on to pass.
