Hey guys,

One of the oxygen sensors in my 06' VE SV6 was causing the Check engine light to stay on. Took it to Holden and they said that the converter is 'disintergrating'. Does generally happen to converters over them and how much does it usually cost to get a new one and have it installed? Holden quoted me at around $1000!

Should cost no more than $300 including install from a proper exhaust shop.

Cheap fix is to remove it and bash the guts out with a broom stick. Be prepared to hear 'deeeerrrrrrppp' every time you put your foot down though. And also carry a box of condoms just incase EPA catch you.

Have you considered buying a second hand cat?

Although not as popular in the SV6 as the SS, I'm sure people still replace the cats with highflow ones.

Not everyone likes having unroadworthy cars.

My point being was buy the STANDARD cat from the person who has replaced it with a highflow.

And because 200cpi cats are just totally unroadworthy.....

Have they tried replacing the gaskets first as this is a common problem and should be done before replacing the cat/s.

The codes will reflect an issue with the cat when its actually the gaskets leaking and messing with the readings.
