i read through this thread already: http://forums.justcommodores.com.au/pub/214411-anyone-here-home-cctv-security-system.html

i want to install CCTV cameras in my shed.

its pretty much dark in there all the time, so i want a good quality set up that:

- can make out people in the dark
- capable if being out side in weather
- reasonable costs

alot of people are saying SWANN. and i went on dicksmith site and found this Buy SWANN DVR4-4000 4 Channel DVR with 4 Pro 530 Cameras | Read Reviews | Dick Smith Online Shopping

im pretty happy with the price but one option i loved was the app feature to watch videos on your phone.

only thing i have an issue with is my sheds are a fair distance from my house so how do i go about the hard drive and everything like that?

and who would i get to install it? dicksmith employee would prob recommend someone wouldnt they

Worried someone is going to get into your imitation tomato plant shed?

EDIT: I'll actually attempt to contribute lol. I don't know if you have a CostCo around your area but I'm pretty sure my local has Swann systems on sale. You could check the price and see if you can save some $$$

2ND EDIT: Click me

3RD EDIT: Fk, above link is USA, sorry...

Do you have a network connect in the shed?

We have CCTV at home, one camera is on the shed, but it's only about 10m from the house. You can get wireless cameras that will transmit up to 50m. The other option is to have the hard drive and wiring hidden so it's not obvious.

How far from the house is the shed?

If the house is that far from the shed, you will need to set up a hard drive in the shed, but obviously somewhere hidden.

Or just get DVR lock box, my work uses them for all the systems just incase they do gain access to the room where its kept its still in a steel lock box.

my suggestion.
try get something that also runs on a backup power supply (batteries and so on)
just incase they decide to be smart and cut the power.

set up a local DVR and the cameras hard wired in cat5/6/whatever

im sure someone else would have an idea on how to wire up with backup power.

Power backup is a good idea, a UPS is what you will want, might be worth holding off on it unless you think its likely, just wait until you have the cash for it if its not likely that they will cut power...

My suggestion is to get a DVR setup in the shed (somewhere hidden obviously).

Or if you want, go with wireless but I wouldn't recommend it.
Cameras are only so good with an alarm system. Id rather an alarm because I guarantee they wont stick around with sirens going.
And Id rather catch the thieves rather than watch them on your computer the next day.

Why not just go with an alarm system. Put the sensors at each entry point, and wall-a.
I doubt thieves will stay in there very long with 2 80db sirens going off. Its considerably cheaper aswell.

Fair enough if you want to look at your shed while you are out. You can get text messages/calls from your alarm if it has been tripped.

Edit: Just read above about what if they cut the power. Decent alarms will be triggered as soon as they cut the power or mess with the box with the components.
(They have a battery in the box, they last from anywhere from a year to 10.)

PM me if you want to know where and where not to go to get alarms/cameras done in Geelong.
