    Hi Guys.

I had my center bearing replaced a few months back as it was pissing grease everywhere (also had the uni's replaced).

While I had the car up on the hoist replacing the wheels the other day I went over the underside of the car as I had a bit of vibration through the drive line, everything else seems fine except I found the center bearing mount rubber is so worn my tailshaft is looser than a $2 hooker (can move the tailshaft up and down freely almost, and if I torque the engine up with my foot on the brake it gets a fair bit of movement).

Does anyone know anyone other than holdens that sells the mount's and roughly how much they are?

Also does the center bearing have to be split to replace the mount or can the tailshaft stay in one piece to replace.

    Thanks

U gotta split it to change it, it's not too hard, but it is time consuming. Please take note if u do this of where the washer/spacer things sit. This will help retain correct tailshaft orientation. The bearing is only $30ish from memory..

the center bearing would not be throwing grease all over the place, that's the cv joint.

the bearing is fairly simple to replace, as above take not of the thick washers holding it in the right place, if you forget these you change the trajectory of the 2 halves of the tail shaft and upset the expensive cv joint, also mark the tail shaft so it goes back together exactly as it is or you will mess the phasing up between the 2 uni joints which is also bad.

guys, its not the center bearing itself thats the problem

as I stated the center bearing and uni's have been replaced.....its the center bearing mount (the rubber mount the bearing sits in)

similar to this, its the mount the bearing sits in not the bearing itself.

I think those are fairly soft anyways.

Iirc, when I did mine, the bearing came with the rubber mount, I didn't pop out the bearing from the mount. So either whoever did the centre bearing, only did the bearing or the orientation of ur tailshaft is out and it's chopped it out again.

Regardless, u gotta crack it to get to it to replace it.

Fairly sure my Repco bearing didn't have any rubber with it :/
