    Hey guys, I'm new to cars and any help would be appreciated;

    1. I have a VSII with central locking. I bought it second hand and was told the
Driver-side door doesn't open by remote for "Security reasons". I think this is BS but a second opinion would be helpful.

    2. I think it might be the actuator that needs replacing. My local elec. mechanic said it would cost $150 to replace (if its there). Being over-charged?

    3. I started removing the door trim to look but can't get the window winder removed. I heard of the "Rag" method where you use a t-shirt but its still unclear to me.

    Any advice would be appreciated

    Hey,

'Security Reasons' hey? I would have been honest with you and told you it is most likely stuffed. However it may only be connections in the actuator, so worth having a go getting it out.

The clip holding the winder on is like a U shape. So the open ends of the U is where you want to run the edge of the rag. Then, pull the ends of the rag togetherso they separate the winder and door panel. It involves a little jiggling, and should pop off.

Plus, you'll need to get the door lock button off. If you have a jeweller's screwdriver, you can pry the orange piece of plastic off that way. I have found it best to grab a small safety pin, then bend the pin back so it is straight (be careful though! Mind de fingies). Using pliers, bend the pointy bit, approx 2 mm in length 90 degrees.

Then insert it so it slides down the width (left or right side) of the orange plastic. Then, you turn the pin inwards to the orange. The pin should engage behind the plastic. Then you pull firmly but gently and it should pop out.

You can also search for other posts in other forums, which may help you out somewhat.

    It's stuffed.

My driver side door opens.. it's a 2 stage thing, 1 click for driver door only, 2 clicks for all other doors.

IF only everything was this easy......

Yea I had a go at opening the trim
the actuator looked ok so I was bit confused.

Then i felt around the connector,

    IT WAS UNPLUGGED!!!!!

    (good call on that, newo)

Now it works fine and i feel better knowing I have an extra $150 in my wallet.

    Cheers

(ps they prob would have still charged 150 and "said" it needed replacing)

Yeah you get that on pretty much any car with central/keyless. Just tell them to stop frigging with it, or next time you WON'T open their door :p

I had the front passenger problem, wouldn't lift the snib, and you couldn't do it by hand either. So it was permanently locked. Auto elec took forever to get trim off to look at it, then told me I needed a new actuator from Holden, @ $520. I told him to get one from wrecker. Bill was $50 for SH actuator and $200 labour, mostly in getting the door trim off the locked door. Arrrrgh! If only there was a manual key lock on the passenger side
