was wondering if anyone has had to do this. our's is starting to make that good buggered bearing sound. do you need to use a press to get it off or is it a bit easier than that.

No need for a press.

Remove the tail shaft from the car, mark the two halves where they bolt together with the 6 Allen head bolts so it goes back together the same way. Mark the shaft and the CV joint so they go back together the same way as well, then remove the circlip and take the CV joint off the shaft, then prise off the metal washer looking thing and then slde the centre bearing off. Take note of which way the metal washer looking thing and the centre bearing was as they need to go back on the same way. You will need to tap that on with a hammer as it is a press fit (the metal washer looking thing, not the bearing), it's not that tight though. Then reassemble the tail shif making sure you get the parts lined back up.

The marking of the parts is crucial to the balance of the shaft, if the shaft goes back together in the wrong position, you may get driveline vibration.

cool, thanks. i didn't think it could be to bad. i converted to manual a couple of years ago and that was where we split the shaft. $37 for a bearing from repco so will start from there.
