Does anyone know for sure whether you have to get your car serviced at the dealer you bought from in order to keep you certified used warranty??

Read the Terms & Conditions that come with the warranty!

...But in general yes, you need to get it serviced with them, at intervals which exceed the logbook intervals.

Yeah the terms and cons read that way. They make it totally confusing. Your right Big Al... total con.

And don't get suckered into buying an "extended" warranty. Not worth the paper it's printed on.

I fell for this "Certified Warranty" bullcrap. As others have said, you need to get it serviced back at the dealer to keep the "warranty" intact.

The warranty itself is very average in my experience, as they have tried very hard to weasle their way out of things.
Tried to convince me that I had to pay to get the LCA replaced cos it rattled over bumps. Wasn't under warranty cos I installed coilovers which may have affected it. Luckily for me, I brought the rattling LCA issue up many months prior to installing coilovers and Holden actually pulled their finger out replaced the LCA.

New problem is my heater hose fitting is leaking (ever so slowly). Car has only done 130,000kms and Holden claims wear and tear and is quite normal. I know a ton of people who have cars for quite literally a decade (and more) and never once had a heater/coolant hose leak or split. Heck, my GTS-t skyline is nudging 15 years old now and never ever had such an issue.

I have heard from a few friends that legally you can service elsewhere and still have the used warranty in place. Has anyone else heard this?

No, they're getting mixed up with the Holden Factory Warranty.

If the car is new enough, and still has the balance of the Holden factory warranty left, then yes, you can get it serviced anywhere and still keep that warranty.

Any other warranties supplied by the dealer, you need to check the T&C's.

I had used car warranty beyond that statutory 3 months/5000km offered. Got air-con fixed for nix under the legal warranty. I service vehicle myself to save money and for something to do. Since my extended warranty expired, only repair that has been required is a couple of sway bar bushes (cost me $12 to replace!) and the transmission seal started to leak ($50 repair at transmission place). Car is 71,000km, looked after, going strong.

Look at what is actually covered. With me it was not much. Even then, my plan had a limit of $1000. So If my motor blew, I pay $4000 rather than $5000. Hmm...

Well the fact that I will have to drive 1.5 hours just to get to the dealer to have it serviced makes the limit of $1000 pointless. With the amount of KMS i do i would have the car serviced every three months or more. So really looking at all that the warranty seems worthless...
