How to change Heater Tap in a VS Climate Control.
There is a diagram at the bottom.

I like to change all Tap/hoses/clamps.

This is an easier way to replace tap and hoses/clamps.

Leave all the hoses and clamps connected to the heater tap.

Undo all hose clamps at firewall and clamps 2 and 5 and pull hoses off.

You will see a vacuum line on heater tap take it off.

Pull the whole lot out in one piece put it on a bench you can use this to copy off.

Flush heater core 2 pipes on firewall.

After you assemble put everything put it back in the car you should have 4 hose clamps (2/5/15/15) to do up and the vacuum hose.

You have to warm car up and bleed air out and will need coolant.

Have the tap open as well.

Hope that helps.

PS. the first time I found the hoses on the firewall very hard to get off so cut the hoses long ways down to the copper pipe and peeled open.

If you have part number 13 pipe you can delete it I did up to you.

Please feel free to add if I`ve missed something.

Be VERY Careful when removing the Heater Pipe from the Heater Core that comes through the fire wall,
I ended up changing all 4 hoses, as they were looking bit old,
So I just sliced the old ones CAREFULLY on the heater core with a Stanley knife, so the pealed away,
[Don't make a groove in the heater core pipes with the knife]
Then cleaned the surfaces up, and then placed a little bit of Gasket Cement in the inside of the hose, so they would slide on nicely, and that will also make sure they are sealed on to the pipes,
Then did the same for all the other ends of the Heater Tap,
and were they connect to the heater inlets/outlets on the motor.
Haven't leaked so far. ;)

Sorry all was in a hurry to replace hoses and tap.
Only got a pic of old one which came out in one piece.
I copied from it for the new one.
The old Mackay set came with straight hoses tap to firewall.
I installed them 8yrs. ago.
The GM ones are a hockey stick shape.

Easer just to cut the hoses off the heater core with a pair of hose cutters or sharp Stanley knife but not to heavy on the slicing to avoid cracking the pipe, after you removed the feed and return lines from motor, then slice the remaining hose off the heater pipes, its very important to take note which hose goes where on heater tap and the pipe connections on motor and heater.

When flushing the heater core use low water pressure start at the bottom side first to flush the crap out of the top then switch.

I heat the hose in hot water to soften then apply Vaseline around the heater pipe, also its a pain to get behind the back of heater tap so line up the 2 back pipes before sliding them on by placing the new tap in position with the 2 pipes on the tap that feeds to heater core without the clamps so you can rotate them to the right angle to slide on the heater pipes, then remove the tap and feed the clamps on from the other end and tighten them. Now heat the other end and replace the tap into position and slide the hose on to heater pipes, note don't forget to slide the clamps on first.

Put the 2 other pipes on the motor side and finish by starting the car with heater on full, remove radiator cap then wait till the water starts to circulate and drops and add coolant until its all full, it will bubble pushing out the air, replace cap on radiator and your done. Oh don't forget to put the vacuum line back on.

I also have my third one on my VY,
They go all brittle, and start to weep, and then the hoses/fittings snap off,
after the second one I replaced, I purchased another spare,
and that now has been installed,
then purchased another one (which is the fourth) and is on the shelf as a spare.

Must be something to do with the higher ambient temps you guys see in Aussie. I've not ever replaced one due to failure here in NZ.

edit: And now I've jinked myself no doubt...

Ahh, The Great Aussie Holden build for Australian conditions

“I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons,
I love her jewel-sea,
Her beauty and her terror –
The wide brown land for me!” ;)

Better buy one, and have it on the shelf ready to change-over, now you have said that ;)

I have one here, maybe that is why I haven't needed it? I also have spare water pumps, ignition coils and modules, plugs, leads and various other bits and pieces...

I also run cooler thermostats and drop the thermofan temps so things never get as hot as stock ;)
