I have a VF auto Calais ssv V8 with a 2.92 ratio non LSD. 8000k. I can get a brand new 3.23 (7) LSD fitted for $2600, drive in drive out. Only $125 more than a ratio swap for my present open wheeler which requires much more labour. This is from a race diff specialist here in Adelaide. Good value? What can I expect? He cant fix the speedo and said the tuner will need to do that.

Thanks

If your going to spend that sort of cash go shorter IMO, like whatever available near 3.9's for awesome take off's. But if your highway driving then i spose the 3.23. Speedo will need to be recalibrated.

I'd wait a bit longer and pick up a 3.46 cheap out of a manual.

If you just want the 3.23 just for the gears then it should be cheaper than that price, are you or know anyone thats good with the spannners? save a bit more coin there.

Yes your diff will come with LSD from factory, If you want a tight LSD with taller gears than get yours rebuilt - trust me you want a tight LSD or go for a trutrac

^^ Munz said it.

Not a good deal by any measure. I swapped mine with 3.27 trutrac for $2150.

Also be aware that most people on this forum do not have ve/vf hence no understanding of the six speed, mainly same old school drag racing maxims. That's why you often get comments like go 3.7, 3.9, 4.11 but...

In our car first gear ratio is 4.027. Second is 2.364, which with a 3.27 pretty much gives me the same start line ratio as a 4L60E with a 4.30 rear! Any lower than 3.27 and you start to see the car want to change into overdrive once you hit 100mph. Don't want to start dividing the power before then now do we?!

Even 3.46 adds 280rpm to cruise in top, which is a second overdrive, so drop that deal and shop around for 3.23 or 3.27 with trutrac. PM me for a contact.

Yeh according to holden NO LSD in the calais V8. And the ratio is 3.45 not 3.46.

Pir4te. Here is a graph of my fuel consumption with the 3.45 ratio. Do you see it???

Yeah thanks. Glad you are happy with it. I'm not saying you should change yours, there's not much in it really. I think it's an effective cheap mod, and congratulations BTW!

However if price is not the issue and you have the choice, 3.27 HSV gives better economy with greater speed, and proves faster 0-400m without running out of power. Having said that if you are planning to rev the tits off it with mods to support 18% more RPM than stock peak then yours is slightly better!

Thanks for the responses, I got another drive in/ drive out quote from a local diff specialist close to home. They have an LSD 3.27 in stock. I might run with that. Will talk to my tuner in the morning when he tweaks my p100 to a bp98 tune.

I don't know if VE-VF is the same (I don't see why not), but in VT-VZ anyone with a Tech2 can calibrate a speedo. You might find someone on here willing to do it for much less than a tuner.
