changing diff gears

just been trying to change the diff gears in my vp (live rear diff)
but no matter what i do i cant seem to get the old pinion gear out,
i've undone the nut behind the tailshaft but i wont come out.
is there a trick to get it out
any help please

hi, u will have to tap it out with a hammer and a drift .

yes, i know this is a 4yo thread, but i was doing a search and though i'd add what i did... i just gave it some good whacks with a rubber mallet and it came out without too much hassle.
