Changing ls1 oil pump

hi people my mate has asked me to change the oil pump on his ls1

just wondering if anyone had done this and whats involved im pretty clued up with

this stuff i built many many motors ,but have never changed an oil pump on a ls1

how hard is it,cheers any tips will be good thanks guys . . . . .:thumbsup:

p.s I want to do it in the car not with the motor out

Pull the radiator,belts and balancer remove water pump and timing cover will have to pull an idler pulley to get at one of the bolts and presto there it is.

One thing that how to doesnt tell you is it is better to buy a bolt an inch longer than the crank pulley bolt to get it started when reassembling. There is a chance that you can strip out the thread in the crank if you dont do this due to not enough threads being engaged. Otherwise it is a very good right up.
When I did my cam change etc I didnt bother with the dropping of the sump. However this method can have a few dangers & is not recommended for the inexperienced.

depends how competent you are with tools, between 2-5hrs would be a gueestimate

I was told you have to drop sump to get at Oil pick up bolts do I have to lift motor or is there enough Clarence
