Hey, i'm in the process of changing steering wheels, my original vr steering wheel is non-airbag just for the record. I've got as far as taking off the horn peice, unplugging it, taked the centre nut off, and took off the plastic housing of the steering wheel.

I'm not sure what else needs doing for the steering wheel to come off, i didnt want to put force on it that could damage something.

I have a boss kit for my new steering wheel and all that.

    Please help me!
    Cheers

The correct way is to use a steering wheel puller but in the absence of said tool, sit in the drivers seat, make a fist with each hand and bang the wheel on alternate sides hard and fast a few times, like banging on the bar demanding another beer. It should come loose then its just a matter of lifting it off the shaft.

There are oval holes on each side near the centre of the wheel .You grind down the heads of a couple of longish 5/16 bolts so they fit down the holes and you push them through the holes turn them 90 degrees so they grip the base of the wheel and then undo the big centre nut until it is right at the end of the thread and rest the puller (which is basically a piece of thick steel with 2 small holes that the 5/16 threads go through and a large centre hole)against the big nut ,poke the two threads of the ground down bolts turned 90 degrees through the holes in the puller and thread the nuts on them with washers if you need to pack it out and evenly do them up until the pressure pushing against the centre nut on the end of the shaft releases the taper and the wheel is off .
Dont be tempted to hit the shaft with a hammer or pull hard aginst the wheel or you might break something

It sounds wrong but you hit it down as in away from you. Hit one side then the other pretty fast and hard. You won't break anything, you might bruise your hands though...lol....just re read what you said...and yes, forward, towards the dash.

Is there size limit a steering wheel must be, before its illegal and detectable?

365mm diameter on VR no smaller than that. On a VS it can't be any smaller than 360mm. By the way the new wheel looks good mate.

    365mm?!? Damnn.

Mines like 320mm, so what would happen if ya got pulled up and cops seen it?

Im tryin to see if i can get mine swapped for a 350mm one that only had the 320 in stock at the time.

    Cheers

Not much probably unless the cop decided to be picky and look for stuff. Most he can do is defect you for it. The steering wheel is only a cop shop defect in SA so not too major. not sure on rules in NSW.

come up looking sweet :) good work!

love the smaller steering wheels, the standard ones almost feel like driving a truck!
