hi my vs has done almost 160 000 k's and was wondering if its worth changing teh timing chain? theirs no noise etc but chains do stretch a bit don't they? ive seen 2 on ebay COMMODORE VR VS VT VX & VY V6 TIMING KIT .. NEW | eBay CS6VS Crow Timing Set Holden V6 Commodore VR VS VT VU | eBay the first on comes with the tensioner and the crow one comes with just the chain and sprockets. which would be better? obviously the crow ones but im not gonna be turboing it or supercharging it, i do however drive it hard, sometimes really hard also whats with the different adjustments on them? (-1 -2.....and +1 +2 etc)? thanks
IMO i wouldnt bother changing it if there is nothing wrong with it. ive found that unnecessarily changing parts usually causes problems to arise that were not previously there.
As above, its not really a part that you replace per service intervals etc. If its fine now there's no need to replace it on what's an otherwise stock motor. The plus and minus number are in degees of advanced and retarded cam timing i.e. its adjustable for dialing in an aftermarket camshaft. Cheers
ah ok cheers guys, ive herd that they can stretch on stock standard engines that have not been driven hard at all and oonly have round 100 000k's and have no symptoms of noise etc.. what about fitting stronger valve springs? or is that only if id go with a cam shaft? im thinking of ripping heads off etc and changing all the gaskets also i have a weird scraping sound coming from me engine when i turn at the lights from a stand still, like lights turn green so i go then i hear this noise from the engine, its a weird noise like scrapping noise, its deffinally coming from inside the engine? any ideas?
No need to change valve springs unless your aftermarket cam/rocker combo needs it. I got my heads pulled off about 2 years ago but only because my manifold gasket was gone so I thought better off getting everything checked out while the supercharger and manifold was off. But if there's nothing wrong I wouldn't do it for the sake of doing it.
