half way through changing my mates front springs on a vz ute, but we need to know how to un-do the top bolt on the strut (the one under the engine bay) the little disc thingo just spins with it?? couldnt really find a how-to for it, if there is please let me know, or tell me how to get that nut off cheers
yeah, just for anyone else, you need to hold the nut with a spanner and then using a 10mm socket and bar/ratchet undo it, or have a powerfull rattle gun on hand to get it off
ye **** easy once we got that off, really supsrised how easy tha whole thing was to do, i was dreading doing the front springs
yeah mcphersons are easy as to do, did you just replace the springs or did you do the struts aswell, if youve gone superlows, putting a shortened strut makes a HUGE differance
we just did all four springs it makes a huge difference to wat? stance or handling? his not too worried about handling pretty nice ute though, piked it up last friday, droped it today, his got a set of VZ SS 18" rims sitting there waitin to go on, just need some rubber here's a quick pic as soon as we lowered the jack, so it still dropped abit more once we went for a drive, and the rears arnt done in that pic
comfort is the advantage, with the standard shocks and superlows the ride is as hard as throwing rocks at your head, small bumps in the road makes the dash sound like its going to fall off, jiggles you around, i got monroe gt sport struts that are designed to work with king springs, and for $112 each its worth every cent, im positive the comfort is better now with being lowered 50mm and putting 18's on than standard height with 15's fyi i was alway going to do the struts with mine, because the gt sports where a new model and had to be ordered i couldnt be bothered waiting to lower the car i just pulled it apart and did it again lol
air tools FTW when undoin that bolt leave the weight on it and give it a burst worked for me And yes its an easy job. And I agree with andyman, replacing the strut with a lowered item is the way to go, I recently did mine and did springs and lowered struts/shocks all round, its actually a pretty nice ride especially on 20's. My old VY i only changed the springs and comapring the 2 cars after the lowering the VZ with the new struts designed for lowered heights is 1000 times better.
