Hi

Chasing a vibration on idle and while driving.

Have just pulled off the drive shaft, to get that balanced. Centre bearing and one universal already replaced.

Now here's a video link, is the trans tail shaft supposed to have movement?

With the drive shaft off, can I start the car with out losing fluid?

Appreciate any good input

Cheers
Pete

Movement like that is normal until the front yoke of the tailshaft engages into the brass bush (well they used to be brass)
I'm sure you will lose oil if you start the car.
Vibration on idle could be vacuum leak/spark plugs/coil/s

I've replaced all three coils, and spark plugs. 2nd hand dfi / ignition module.

Could it be idle air controller? I have a new acDelco one to install at some point.

Also have installed new engine mounts.

As above you will probably lose fluid. You can test this by seeing if it does it in neutral - if it does it in neutral the problem is somewhere else forward of that point, if not your problem is possible from there back.

Hi there, cheers for the reply.
I'm also wondering if the trans mount close to where the drive shaft attaches needs replacement? I can riggle the trans up and down a small amount.
Not 100% sure about harmonic balancer.

Engine mounts, gearbox mount, center bearing, upper and lower rear suspension mounts.

Anything that can introduce vibration, will.

Hi deserthead
That's a good point.

Possibly a process of illumination I guess.

I'll make an edit to my post shortly, but for now this vibration started after the car sat for a while, when I was waiting to score another motor for it. Started driving it again and there were vibrations that wernt there prior.

How long did it sit for?

I had a metallic noise on certain conditions, turned out my CV joint had no grease or rubber seal and was metal on metal, how it didnt self destruct, i dont know. But sometimes, the simple fixes are the major problems.

Also, if its sat for a while, have you serviced the engine? Vibrations could also be ignition cross fire etc

What where the engine mounts like on the replacement engine?
