A turbo can match a supercharger off the line, given the revs of the car are raised for a sufficient amount of time beforehand, to give the turbines sufficient flow and time to wind up.

I might go a 6, they are pretty damn cheap. Although I do love the grunt of the 8.

I tried an VT II SS tonight which was an auto, and boy it was shocking. I'd have to rip that gearbox out straight away, it seemed to kick in too early, even when in "power mode" and was really clunky. Is this all of the auto's or just a problem with some, that might be thrashed? Or low on trans fluid or something?

i was considering a V6 but then i test drove a V8 and thought yes this what i want

Not really, I thought they weren't that good. Should I be considering a 5.0L?

IMO go for v8 cubes or a S/C six.

I've sort of resolved to get a LS1 manual, hopefully something really basic with a fair few miles for cheap like 10k and then rebuild the motor and get some parts forged, then a gearbox which can take some punishment, then look for a twin turbo setup and such.

y not get a the v6 and turbo it there are now quite a few turbo kits out there makeing descent power outta the old v6 i know of 2 diffrent v6 commies here that are well into the 12sec bracket i dont know how much dosh they put into the engine but saying that i just got a gen3 and im neva going back
