Hi all, can anyone help with this issue with my sons VY … ABS and check alternator light illuminated today. Battery seems fine with 12.4 volts. We just changed the alternator regulator and everything thing is coming up trumps, it’s throwing out 13.8-14.2 volts with a multimeter but we can’t get the check alternator light to disappear. Does anyone know how to get rid of this? Also I’ve tried leaving the battery disconnected for half hour but it’s still illuminated and beeping! Cheers

VY = 2002 / 2003 V6 ?

Tech2 or similar will list the DTC,
and that should indicate the fault.
Its possibly a intermittent fault, so its wont extinguish after 2 starts/cycles.
Possibly be the Regulator, and/or the Brushes are worn out,
as the brushes are replaceable,
or,
replaceable regulator,
assuming its a RE72 Alternator.

Thanks Krusing, fitted new regulator and still getting required volts at battery and alternator but still the fault is persistent every time we start it. Getting hold of a scan tool, so hopefully we can remove the code with it.

You need a scan tool or similar to see what the DTC is, which is the cause of the MIL to activate,
Depending your location, in SA,
Most Spare Parts places will scan it for you,
Or
Purchase the software, and hardware from one of the JC's sponsors "Envious Customs" , being you can scan yourself with a Windows PC.
