check powertrain - fuel guage?

have noticed recently that when i get to just below 1/2 way on the fuel guage i get a check powertrain msg come up on the car...
i clear this msg by disconnecting the battery and the fault goes away, but the fuel guage then reads just above the red zone - empty...

any thoughts on what this could be?

your in the same boat as me, i have heard its an 02 sensor.

o2 sensor, bcm or ecu...... or.... fuel sender. good luck

Should. Tech2 I think it is from memory

i know this is an old thread but thought i would post as i had it happen to me again recently. turns out it was the alternator.
