my main concern is that now ppl will think they have a legitimate reason to put a chev badge on it when its released, so we'll see a lot more of them :/

people, the nascar shape will never look like the road going version of any car as the body shape for all nascars no matter what the brand is are all identical (car of tomorrow) and are all 2 door. the front/rear lights, grille etc are what defines the make of the car and they're decals.

You are correct in that the middle 1/3 of the car, and glass house in particular will bare no resemblance to the road going car. The front clip in particular and rear to a lesser extent provide very accurate clues to the look of the road car.

US: GM's Chevrolet applies for El Camino trademark

By Graeme Roberts | 6 December 2012

General Motors appears to be reviving the El Camino nameplate for North America, this time on an Australian-made variant of the Holden Commodore Ute (for utility or pickup truck).

Enthusiast blogger website GM Authority has been poking around in the United States Patent and Trademark Office (discovering in the process the trademarked Nomad nameplate, as in '57 Chevrolet two-door wagon, had been renewed) and found an El Camino trademark application filed on 9 August, 2012.

There have been rumours the Chevrolet El Camino - a pickup spinoff off a saloon car made in North America between 1959 and 1977 would return as an American variant of the Commodore Ute/HSV Maloo and pick up where the stillborn Pontiac G8 ST left off, the website noted.

Holden built a Pontiac GTO variant of its Commodore-derived Monaro coupe for the now defunct US brand and followed up with the G8 sedan when the Commodore was redesigned. A G8 ST 'El Camino' was reportedly planned before GM pulled the plug on Pontiac and went through government-assisted Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Motor Authority said: "If we were to connect the dots, both the Chevrolet Nomad sport wagon and El Camino ute would be derivatives of the upcoming Chevrolet SS sport sedan, which is a spin-off from the Holden Commodore sedan. For GM performance enthusiasts, each model is something to get very excited about."

Looks like the Commodore ute might be exported this time around.

i dont think that render is too bad... plus with the more updated front from the other photos it will look really good.

i am a fan of the camaro style taillights in this one. and would look forward to the luxury look of the calais.

Not a fan of the tail lights or the grille, but apart from that, not bad.

Word is the HSV tail lights look **awesome**. They are the above sort of shape but with the glowing bar type lighting elements like the latest AUDI etc. Not this shape but you get the idea:

Probably the best indication of the nose yet:

In other news - Holden apps??? Fair chance this concept will be phased in over the near future. Longer term your traditional navigator will end up being a in dash interface but all the processing etc will be from your smartphone similar to current bluetooth mp3 music streaming.
