Cigarette Light Socket - loose

    Anyone know how to fix a loose cigarette light socket - pain in the arse position under the tray - 2001 VX commodore

    I think the back screws on sandwiching the trim panel between the lip of the socket and the retainer.

    yes, there is a big nut on the end that holds it tight and it has probably come loose. You have to remove the console cover to get at it. Undo the 2 screws either side of the socket then lift the cover from the other end using a bit of force because it clips in.

    I was on the right track in the faults thread... but yeah..

    You'll need to remove the radio to take the gear surround panel out, then you should see these two screws that hold the "ash tray/pocket" in place. I remember that now. :w00t:

    You will not need to remove the radio, you only need to remove the console surround as I described.

    All i did was use my fingers and twisted the socket. didnt remove anything.

    I am going to try that trick and report how I went

    Update - too bloody hard to insert my fingers and twist the damned thing - better off taking it holden dealer

    Give it a go yourself. Just follow the instructions in my fist reply and then remove the 2 screws holding the storage compartment and then your in there. Just tighten the big nut at the back of the socket. Save money and inconvenience of taking it to Holden.
