best not to use any sort of brush as they can cause damage to inner surface. You can leave it on but there will be plenty of crap still left behind. cleanig it while left on is still good enough but to completely get rid of everything much easier to take it off, after all its only 4 bolts..
All you need is can of carby cleaner and a rag or 2

Take it off and use carby cleaner and may as well undo another 3 nuts and clean the elbow piece that connects the throttle body and where it says 3800 as that will be very dirty too.

If you gona do it properly go to Holden and order new gaskets. The throttle body ones $6 and the elbow piece is $3.

When u take it off u will break it for sure if you are not gentle.
