From memory the its a 6mm allan key and 10mm bolts to remove the plenum from the manifold.
They're O ringed so you can re-use them. You could also use a little gasket silicon to make sure.

Use some good carby cleaner and a stiff brush. The burnt oil sticks like **** to a blanket.

I've been told that oven cleaner contains caustic. Alloy doesnt like caustic much.
That said, i've used it on severly corroded carbs before and not had an issue. Just thought I'd throw it out there :D

Nah, if you use the right Allen key it works fine. I could have sworn they were allen key heads anyway.
I would strongly recomend removing the plenum. You don't want that **** running down into the motor. It wont really hurt it, but it'll be a prick to start and probably not want to run right for a bit.

I've always used an allen key and never had a problem.

Just stuff some toiletpaper or rags in the runners. Probably unnecessary but why not
