on the vz when i removed the intake pipe to replaced the serpentine belt i notice the throttle body was filthy and i had a can of sca carby throttle body cleaner from supercheap
i just spayed into the throttle body and i did not open the butterfly and used a clean bit of cloth to wipe it also did the mass air flow sensor using the proper cleaning stuff in a can from arc a few months ago and certainly made her run better

The correct way is to remove it, and clean it properly,
Spraying the cleaner into does bugger all,
If you think its running better, try cleaning it completely/properly,
It will idle and run heaps better !
The Spray S____ is BS, its a lazy mans cleaner, oops sorry ladies
Its lazy Persons Cleaner !
It doesn't bite, pull it apart, do it once, and do it properly !

Issues can arise when too much cleaner is used and the seal on the shaft is ever so slightly worn and finds its way into the motor/electrical part. You’d be unlucky and it would mean at some point soon it needs replacing anyway.

Calibration issues can occur when it’s forced open on the car (but not always) A Tech2 or Snapon diagnostic tool can perform a re-calibration.

Easy, remove it and clean it with degreaser, just make sure you hold it the right way, after you clean it, hose it down, and blow it out with compressed air, re-install it, job done.
When you say "make sure you hold it the right way" do you mean clean it with the Electronics facing up?

I use the Suburu intake cleaner which foams up (as part of yearly maintenance.)
Throttle body cleaner for the throttle body.

For me I will take the Throttle Body off the car and clean it both sides and have the Electronic section Facing up (Less chance of getting the spray up inside) and I wont force the butterfly. Spray, clean both side and that will do for Cheap VE as that car is 98% Finished. Also I will do the MAF sensor too with the Correct Spray can.

Today for me is Supercheap day I will buy some Throttle Body cleaner, some MAF Cleaner and a set of Spark Plug leads for my Son V6 Statesman (at night it a Christmas Tree) which is Nealy finished and its time to Enjoy the car as He just got his license.

By that I would say by foaming up it not a liquid and wont go easily up the shaft into the Electronics section.

Yes. I would not feel comfortable cleaning it still bolted on the car.
Throttle body cleaner, an old toothbrush to get into the hard to get spots and then wipe with a paper towel,
