hey guys i took my air pipe off my vr v6 today and noticed that the inside of my throttle body was very dirty. would i be getting much of a gain if i were to take it off and give it a good clean? i would even be happy if it made the car idle/run a little smoother.. let me know what yous think. cheers guys
if your idle is a bit rough and choppy you will probably find that your iac is not sealing properly in the trottlebody. use crc brand carb cleaner in the throttle body and iac seat area and gently gently scrape it a bit with a small flatblade screwdriver, wrapping the tip in a rag.
The gains all depend on how bad it is to start with. Some people find better throttle response and smoother idle, others nothing. Given the low effort and cost involved, it's a good activity for a lazy weekend - you may or may not get much performance out of it, but it can't hurt.
I a can of johnson/evinrude decarb on my old VN T B,, take the intake pipe of with engine running just above idle.. spray a generous amount into throttle openin while running.. engine will shut off... open butterfly and spray more into throttle and leave it for couple of hours,, then restart engine...The de carb cleans all the carbon and crap out....of throttle, cylinders and rings aswell .... cheap clean for ten bucks
I would definately do it if its dirty...cheap fix for poor idle and hey the cleaner the stuff going in the motor the better!!
i just cleaned mine today for the hundreth time ive found if you keep it clean it runs alot better no power gain though
Undo the nut on the throttle cable and then unhook it from the rotational slider??? Or if that doesn't work, sidecutters should do the trick. Reaper
I was chatting to a guy at an Auto Shop, he said to take the pipeing off and leave the engine running while spraying the Throttle Body Cleaner in, is this recommended or is it better to take the Throttle Body off completley? He also mentined that it cleans the injectors etc etc? Any thoughts?
