Hi all,

I have a few questions to ask,

I bought a VT 1998 v6 ecotec a few months ago,

Yesterday i removed the engine cover and there was a lot of caked on oil or something like that under the metal box thingy lol still learning about engine areas , my question is is that normal? or can i clean it?

Another question is that my coolant temp reaches 101 degrees, is that normal? i have a theory maybe its because i put premixed coolant in which is 35% coolant and 65% water mix, found some web sites saying 50/50,

Any help would be Appreciated

101 is fine as long as that's when the fans kick in. You can get cooler thermostats which will reduce the operating temp to around 92, and that will in turn reduce heat soak in the intake manifold (the metal thing) which may help improve performance. You won't really notice performance improvements just with the thermostat alone, though.

Yes, coolant should be 50/50 mixes.

Oh, and cleaning, go for your life. Don't use high pressure water around the electrics, so best to use degreaser and rags.

wow wow wow lol

just to clarify do you mean your manifold? yeh there be a alot of **** oil in there.

if you want to clean it: remove manifold, spray a ton of degreaser, let it sit then hose it down.

for the love of god dont take top hat off, spray degreaser, then use water to clean it.

It looks the same as our VX and she loves a good cleaning one in a while and never has it failed to start first pop afterwards.
What we do after using the water blaster is get the vax vacuum cleaner and suck up all the water from the top parts and then use the air compressor and nozzle to blow every thing under the bonnet dry.

Do you mean inside the manifold (red arrow)?
Or on the outside of the manifold its self (orange arrow) As in.....around the block and the manifold?

If you mean inside the manifold. You could take the lid off, spray degreaser inside and wipe it out with a cloth.
DO NOT WASH IT OUT WITH WATER, UNLESS YOU REMOVE THE MANIFOLD FROM THE ENGINE.

If you mean on the out side only, try this....CLICK HERE

i use the bottle of 4 liters straight degreaser that you can mix with water or use straight for a more powerful clean.i use paint brushes and pour some degreaser into a container. for the hard to reach stuff then i will use a can.then i get plastic bags for alternator e.t.c to cover them and hose down :) be very quick with any hosing down and don't do if engine is warm only do it when its dead cold.

Make sure you don't get water anywhere near the dfi module, is all I can say. I've made that mistake before
