I am getting beehive seats that have a base diameter of 1.29" for my vn v8 cylinder heads. How much clearance do I require around the spring seats? At the moment I have 1.294". Will this be enough? Thanks Keith

.004" clearance... IF the spring seat is located on the valve guide than it shouldn't move so may be ok.

Thanks Immorality. I contacted Comp cams, they say as tight as possible so the spring does not move around.

Yeah, there are 2 kinds of spring seats, the ones that locate on the OD and the ones that locate on the ID (the valve guide). I like the ID type but I guess it would require machining the guide. I was going to try em on my next build, same as you, beehives on a 304 :)

Outside diameter at the top is 1.055". The spring is 26915 from Comp cams. I supplied them the cam details
plus the spring base diameter and that is what they advised.

I am chopping and changing but these springs suit both roller or flat up to 600 lift.

I have the same issue. Slowly starting to fix my 5l it used to be roller but I holed the block. I would rather not use tie bars so I'm thinking I might just go flat tappet. Don't know what cam specs I need yet though as the heads I'm using have bigger valves. One certainty is I'll be using the TP dual plane low rise with a carb in my VS so 6500rpm is the limit.

I have just received my comp cams beehive springs from Competition engines. They cost including freight $298. This does not include the retainers or collets that I had already bought. Some outfits are asking well over $400 for the same springs.
