Hi there, the digital climate control in my VS calais sometimes turns itself off and goes blank... You press all buttons and nothing happens, no display at all. After 20 mins the display will suddenly come back and the unit will function perfectly doing everything it should do.
Does this sound like a common problem?

Almost sounds like a wiring problem or fault unit. Have you got another display to test with?

check that the looms at the rear are plugged in properly and that no wires are damaged/loose

It may also pay to strip the unit down and give it a blow over with an air gun and check that all "wires" from the LCD are securly and correctly soldered.

one VERY important point is does it reset to defaul I.E "auto" with AC on or does it return the display with all of your current settings?

It resets to default mode. All plugs are attached well and all connections look solid

$50 from the wreckers = another unit, may solve all the problems, if all the wiring appears good at that end, i'd try tracing some of it back just in casem i'd also be checking the circuit for any dry solder joints etc, if you know how.

personally i'd go with a second hand unit, worked for me when my unit died.
